This project began when the customer approached us with a basic sketch of the flower device. Our industrial designer developed several concepts of the flower including considerations for material choices and mounting options. With an extremely aggressive BOM cost target, we developed a PCB to meet requirements for audio fidelity and output power, battery life, and a custom magnetic trigger. This project required solving a few interesting challenges:

  • Programming and integrating a specialized audio processing IC to achieve the desired sound quality and volume

  • Managing sleep current and peak power draw to provide long battery life from a standard replaceable coin cell

  • Electro-mechanical design of the hall-effect magnetic sensor with aesthetic considerations for the industrial design.

  • 3D printing of the prototypes including flexible materials and colored plastics.
